John Huppenthal (born March 3, 1954) is an American politician who served as Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2011 to 2015. In 1955, voters in Oceanside and Carlsbad voted and approved a $1.26 million dollar construction bond that funded the building of Carlsbad's first public high school. Carlsbad High School first opened in 1957. It underwent major redevelopment from 2009 to 2012. In 2010, the Acadamic Performance Index for the school was 812.
