Clearwater Lake Recreation Area and the Clearwater Lake Campground are located by Clearwater Lake along the southeastern edge of the Ocala National Forest in Central Florida outside Paisley, Florida in Lake County, Florida. The recreation area has 42 campsites, a picnic area, and a beach in an area of oak hammock at 24511 County Road 42. [1]
Coldwater Lake is located 8 miles (13 km) north of Mount St. Helens, 5 miles (8 km) west of Spirit Lake. Castle Lake, formed in the same manner as Coldwater Lake during the 1980 eruption, is located about 3 miles (4.8 km) to the south. The area is about 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Longview and 100 miles (160 km) north of Portland, Oregon. [4]
The area's population grew after the Federal Armed Occupation Act of 1842 offered 160 acres (0.65 km 2) to anyone who would bear arms and cultivate the land. [10] Early settlers included the Stevens, Stevenson, Sever and McMullen families, who claimed and farmed large tracts of land. [10] Prior to 1906, the area was known as Clear Water Harbor.
