Western Visayas ( Hiligaynon: Kabisay-an Nakatundan; Tagalog: Kanlurang Kabisayaan or Kanlurang Visayas) is an administrative region in the Philippines, numerically designated as Region VI. Bacolod, officially the City of Bacolod ( / bɑːˈkɔːləd /; Tagalog: [bɐˈkɔlɔd]; Hiligaynon: Dakbanwa/Syudad sang Bacolod; Filipino: Lungsod ng Bacolod ), is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the region of Western Visayas, Philippines. [10] It is the capital of the province of Negros Occidental, where it is geographically situated but governed administratively independent.
Administratively, the Visayas is divided into 3 regions, namely Western Visayas, Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas. Each region is headed by a Regional Director who is elected from a pool of governors from the different provinces in each region. The Visayas is composed of 16 provinces, each headed by a Governor.
