A 2007 study by U.S. News & World Report ranked the high school branch of Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center amongst the top high schools in the United States. The school was one of the 405 high schools to win a silver medal, ranking it below the 100 schools that won a gold medal and above the 1,086 schools that won a bronze medal.
The school has grown to over 80 staff members. Initially housed in the Linden Church of Christ, the school now has three locations. Two of those are sponsoring churches who provide facilities to the school rent-free. The Third location on Northridge Road was an empty Columbus public school, purchased in 1984 for $275,000.
It is the only high school in the Newton Falls Exempted School District. The building houses 6th through 12th grade. Their mascot is the Tigers. Newton Falls' school colors are orange and black. Previously it was a separate school district. The original high school was located at 3000 Agler Rd in Columbus and is now Mifflin Middle School.
A crowning achievement of the district was the opening, during the 1970–1971 school year, of two new high schools: Westland High School and Grove City High School. These two buildings, planned to house two thousand students, were built in 1970-1971 at the amazing low cost of $18.98 per square foot, or a perpupil cost of $1,700.
