The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a public health sciences university in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is part of the University of Arkansas System and consists of six colleges, seven institutes, several research centers, a statewide network of community education centers, and the UAMS Medical Center .
The first medical students arrived at UAMS Northwest in 2009. The College of Pharmacy expanded enrollment in a similar arrangement and sent its first group of students in the fall of 2011. Enrollment in 2011 also expanded to include College of Nursing and College of Health Professions students in addition to the medical and pharmacy students. [4]
That 40-acre site was deeded to the university by the Arkansas State Hospital, and the name UAMS Medical Center originated with the new campus location. The campus saw extensive growth in the early 1960s to the late 1990s. UAMS began another large campus expansion in phases from 2001 to 2011, making it the state's largest academic health center.
