Geography. Râmnicu Sărat County covered 3,324 km 2 [1] and was located in central-south-eastern part of Greater Romania, in the northeastern part of the historical region of Muntenia. Currently, the territory that comprised Râmnicu Sărat County is now included in the Brăila, Buzău and Vrancea counties.
In September 1939, a further thirteen Guardists incarcerated at Râmnicu Sărat were killed in reprisal for the assassination of Armand Călinescu. It was a military prison during World War II, holding soldiers charged with various offenses, such as desertion, failure to enroll or cowardice. In June 1944, there were 63 military prisoners.
