The first hospital, Saint Elizabeth Hospital, was founded in 1889. Saint Elizabeth Hospital would be the only general hospital in Lincoln until 1922. In 1888 a new capitol building was constructed on the site of the first capitol. The new building replaced the former structurally unsound capitol.
