Ranchi Municipal Corporation was established on 15th September 1979 by merging erstwhile Ranchi Municipality, Doranda Municipality and Ranchi Doranda Joint Water Board. It was the second municipal corporation to be set up in erstwhile Bihar (after Patna Municipal Corporation) and the first in the state of Jharkhand.
