University in Río Piedras, circa 1900-1917 The University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras campus, and its iconic clock tower, the Roosevelt Tower. In the year 1900 the Escuela Normal Industrial (Normal Industrial School) was established in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, as the first institution of higher education in Puerto Rico dedicated to train those who would become teachers and educators. The school opened on 23 August 1970 as Colegio Regional de Ponce de la Universidad de Puerto Rico (often shortened to Colegio Regional de Ponce). [9] In 1982, the school starts offering four-year degrees and its name is changed Colegio Universitario Tecnológico de Ponce (CUTPO [10]) to reflect this. [11]

"Mayagüez 2010" marks the third (3) time Puerto Rico hosts the Central American and Caribbean Games, the other being San Juan in 1966, and Ponce in 1993.The city of Mayagüez had been selected previously to hold the games in 1982, but economic problems forced the city to quit the organization, and the games were held in La Habana, Cuba.
Tarzán XI died on October 14, 2020. The new Tarzán XII was introduced on October 21, 2020, at UPRM. He was born on June 27, 2020. He was donated by Dr. Michael Cabán for the Asociación y Fundación Alumni Colegial, presided by Yamileth Valentín Centeno.
