The residents of SISD approved a bond to build a high school. Sunnyvale High School was housed at the middle school campus prior to its campus's opening in the fall of 2009. As of August 24, 2009, the Sunnyvale High School opened its doors to students. In 2009, the school district was rated "exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency.
The high school added a grade a year with the class of 2011 being the first class to graduate from Sunnyvale High School, and the class of 2013 was the first class to have attended all four years on the school's campus. The graduating class of 2014 was the first class to have gone all eight years through the new Middle School and High School.
The first Allen High School, built in 1910 at the corner of Belmont and Cedar, was a two-story brick building housing six classrooms and an auditorium, and saw the first graduating class of eight students in 1914. The second Allen High School was established in 1959 on land donated by Mr. Harris Brown on the corner of Jupiter and Main Streets.
