EPCC operates five campuses in the El Paso area, as well as courses offered at nearby Fort Bliss . As defined by the Texas Legislature, the official service area of EPCC is all of El Paso and Hudspeth counties in Texas.
The school officially opened on September 28, 1914, with 27 students in buildings belonging to the former El Paso Military Institute on a site adjacent to Fort Bliss on the Lanoria Mesa. The school was founded in 1913 as the State School of Mines and Metallurgy, [10] and a practice mineshaft survives on the campus.
In 1998, TTUHSC El Paso celebrated 25 years serving the El Paso community. The following year, then-Texas Tech System Chancellor John T. Montford shared with the Board of Regents a vision for a full-fledged four-year medical school in El Paso to help alleviate a severe shortage of physicians in the area.
