Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS), also known as Chesapeake City Public Schools, is the school division that administers public education in the United States city of Chesapeake, Virginia. The superintendent is Dr. Jared A. Cotton. On July 27, 2020, the division school board voted a 100% online start to the 2020–21 school year.
History. The school originally opened in the fall of 1963 for 7th graders. From that day forward they were always the 'seniors' at Indian River Junior High. In their Junior ['67-'68] year the school board was petitioned and the school was upgraded to Indian River Senior High. There were approximately 185 students that graduated in 1969.
Deep Creek reached the state championship game in 1994 and 2000, losing to Patrick Henry High School of Ashland, VA and Centreville High School, respectively. Deep Creek has been particularly known for their track and field program which has won state championships in 1995, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007.
