The City University of New York (CUNY) system is the public university system of New York City. As of 2018, CUNY is the United States' largest urban public university, with an enrollment of over 274,000 students.
The first community college in New York City was established in 1955 with shared funding between the state and the city, but unlike the senior colleges, community college students had to pay tuition.
