On December 2, 2015, Texas Education Agency Commissioner Michael Williams announced that Texas City ISD would absorb the La Marque Independent School District (LMISD) effective July 1, 2016. By February 2016 TCISD began doing job interviews of teachers at LMISD schools, and it was checking to see what renovations are needed at LMISD schools.
