Jharkhand ( / ˈdʒɑːrkənd /; [8] Hindi: [d͡ʒʱɑːɾkʰəɳɖ]; lit. 'the land of forests') is a state in eastern India. [9] The state shares its border with the states of West Bengal to the west, Chhattisgarh to the east, Uttar Pradesh to the southeast, Bihar to the south and Odisha to the north.
At the time of formation, Jharkhand state had 18 districts. Later, six more districts were carved out by reorganizing these districts.
