The University of Michigan–Dearborn ( UM-Dearborn) is a public university in Dearborn, Michigan. Founded in 1959 with a gift from the Ford Motor Company, it was initially known as the Dearborn Center, operating as a remote branch of the University of Michigan. [5] The branch gradually developed into a fully-fledged university over the years.
The university was founded in 1961 by the Alabama Baptist State under the name of Mobile College. [2] In 1993, the college was renamed the University of Mobile in reference to its location in Mobile County, not to be confused with the City of Mobile. [3] For the 2018-2019 year, it had 1,885 students.
