Serge Massar was born in Zambia in 1970. [2] He obtained a degree in physics, then a PhD from the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in 1991 and 1995, respectively. [2] He completed his post-doctoral research at Tel Aviv University from 1995 to 1997, and subsequently at Utrecht University from 1997 to 1998. [2] [3]
Description. Wing length 9-12·25 mm. Thorax dull greenish. Tergite 4 with entire yellow band. At least anterior femora dark at base, sometimes hind also. Frons black above lunule and at least half black-haired. Female has a bronzy-green area on upper part of frons. Yellow bands on tergites 3 and 4 straight. Tergite 5 with black band.

Biology. Runs on foliage of bushes of Rubus fruticosus at the edge of forest clearings and on the ground near fallen or felled trees. Flowers visited include umbellifers, Galium, Crataegus, Rubus idaeus, Sorbus aucuparia. [10] Flight period is April to June (and July at higher altitudes).
Description. The common quail is a small compact gallinaceous bird 16–18 cm ( –7 in) in length with a wingspan of 32–35 cm ( –14 in). [10] The weight is 70 to 140 g ( to 5 oz). It is greatest before migration at the end of the breeding season. The female is generally slightly heavier than the male. [9]
