It was not until 1955, under a shared-funding arrangement with New York State, that New York City established its first community college, on Staten Island. Unlike the day college students attending the city's public baccalaureate colleges for free, community college students had to pay tuition fees under the state-city funding formula.
LaGuardia Community College was the earliest and most active participant in the Wikimedia Education Program from 2012-2017, having incorporated Wikipedia editing assignments into more classes by more professors than any other university in that time period. Professors and classes at LaGuardia continue to use Wikipedia editing as a learning tool.
