This is a quick overview of templates. Full details can be found in Help:Template, Wikipedia:Templates and m:Help:Advanced templates. A template is a Wikipedia page created to be included in other pages. It usually contains repetitive material that may need to show up on multiple articles or pages, often with customizable input.
A table is an arrangement of columns and rows that organizes and positions data or images. Tables can be created on Wikipedia pages using special wikitext syntax, and many different styles and tricks can be used to customise them. Tables can be used as formatting instrument, but consider using a multi column list instead.
TemplateStyles allow custom CSS pages to be used to style content without an interface administrator having to edit sitewide CSS. TemplateStyles make it more convenient for editors to style templates; for example, those templates for which the sitewide CSS for the mobile skin or another skin (e.g. Timeless) currently negatively affects the display of the template.

There are several advanced table formatting techniques to improve the display or editing of wikitables in Wikipedia. Most of the tips involve use of standard text-editors. While some special software packages exist, to allow customized editing, they are typically not available when travelling to other computers for wiki-editing.
^ Using HTML table code in templates can make them non-portable to other MediaWiki wikis. This is because Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation wikis process wikitext through HTML Tidy; most other wikis do not have the same setup, and the HTML table tags do not render.
A simpler method to include a table in a template that does not directly support table markup is to create the table in a sub-template using standard markup and transclude it.
