Navy Marine Corps Intranet. The Navy/Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) is a United States Department of the Navy program which was designed to provide the vast majority of information technology services for the entire Department, including the United States Navy and Marine Corps.
The NMCI contract took over the Navy's legacy computers and charges the Navy for the use of the legacy computers and the NMCI computers that can't be used for most developing. The MCI Mail service was launched on September 23, 1983, in Washington, D.C., during a press conference that was hosted by MCI's founder and Chairman, William G. McGowan. [1] MCI Mail was the first commercial email service to use the Internet, in 1989. [3][4] The service was officially decommissioned by MCI at 11:59 p.m. ET on June 30, 2003.
