Penn Central's continuous financial despair throughout the 1970s forced them to turn over their commuter service to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which made it part of Metro-North in 1983. At some point, the station was remodeled and moved about 100-foot (30 m) from its original location.

Cannondale station is a commuter rail station on the Danbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, located in the Cannondale neighborhood of Wilton, Connecticut. The station building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992 as part of the Cannondale Historic District .

The station became part of Metro-North Railroad in 1983. In April 2014, Metro North installed a series of solar-powered electronic kiosks at the station that allowed commuters to access train and bus schedules without using internet access.
They ran on the New Haven Line (then part of Penn Central, now a part of Metro-North) for most of their service life. The M4s and M6s were retired by Metro-North in 2015, followed by the last M2s in 2018. They have been largely replaced by new M8 railcars. One pair of M2s has been preserved at the Danbury Railway Museum in Connecticut.
