Noteworthy was founded in 2003 by BYU student Esther Yoder. [1] She consulted with co-founder and then-director of Vocal Point, Bob Ahlander, and recruited Vocal Point members Dave Brown and Dan Dunn to help create the new group. [2] [3] The group was established with nine female members in 2004. [4] Noteworthy competed in the ICCA in 2004.
In 2017, BYU Vocal Point released a music video cover of the song, which was viewed over 5 million times on YouTube as of 2021. [16] In 2017, the song was parodied as part of "Broadway Bound", the opening number of the 71st Tony Awards, which began with host Kevin Spacey dressed in Evan Hansen's iconic blue-striped polo and arm cast. BYU's a cappella groups, Vocal Point and Noteworthy are among the top groups in the country, both of them having been crowned International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella winners, in 2006 and 2007, respectively. Both groups release multiple music videos a year and operate under BYU's Performing Arts Management.
