Valdosta State University ( VSU or Valdosta State) is a public university in Valdosta, Georgia and is one of the four comprehensive universities in the University System of Georgia. As of 2019, VSU had over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students. [2] VSU also offers classes at Moody Air Force Base north of Valdosta in Lowndes County .
Converse Hall, named in honor of W. L. Converse, is perhaps the most important structure in the History of Valdosta State University since it was the building in which the foundation of this institution was laid. Converse Hall, built in 1913, housed everything for the college until West Hall was built in 1918.
A glass-walled, two-story rotunda serves as a lounge space with computer kiosks for students. The windows give students a view of Hopper Hall, Converse Hall and Odum Library. Dr. McFarland is a native of Valdosta-Lowndes County and a graduate of Lowndes High School and Georgia Tech. She has practiced in Valdosta since 2006. Dr. McFarland is a graduate of The Medical College of Georgia. She completed her internship and residency at the Atlanta Medical Center.
Valdosta State College had been serviced by Powell Library since 1940 but at 25,421 square feet (2,361.7 m 2) the building had grown outdated and was too small to accommodate the expanding student population since the institution became co-educational in 1950. Construction began in 1970 of a new 84,551-square-foot (7,855.0 m 2) library.
