On February 25, 1921, with the help of Russia, the Georgian Bolsheviks overthrew the legitimate Menshevik government of Georgia. Since this day, the independent Ministry of Internal Affairs was disbanded. By the Decision of Georgian Revolutionary Committee of March 6, 1921, the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of Georgia was established.
The government ensures its representation in the country's administrative subdivisions by designating a state representative or governor. The head of the Government of Georgia is the prime minister, who appoints and dismisses ministers and assigns the duties of vice prime minister to one of the government members.
By 2005 Georgian government consolidated the seven branches of the defence forces. The National Guard and the Independent Assault Brigade were incorporated into the Georgian Armed Forces under the Ministry of Defence, the Border Guards and Police Special Duties Unit were subordinated to the Ministry of Internal Affairs .
In 1998, the Parliament of Georgia adopted a new law "On the Capital of Georgia - Tbilisi", according to which the self-government in Tbilisi is exercised by a representative body - Tbilisi City Assembly, and the executive body - Tbilisi City Hall. External links
