DIU is the first university in Bangladesh to have signed the UN's Commitment to Sustainable Practices of Higher Education Institutions. According to the SCOPUS indexed research publications in 2022, Daffodil International University has been positioned 2nd among all universities and 1st among all private universities in Bangladesh.
The initial planning began in 1994 but the university was established in 1995. In fact, DIU takes the initiative strongly for the creation of non-government universities and supports the initiative of the Government of Bangladesh. The awarded degree from the private university is equivalent to a degree obtained from any public university of Bangladesh. But the authorities of this university are now divided in four separate groups and running their activities form different campuses.
