Medical College, Kolkata, also known as Calcutta Medical College, is a Government medical college and hospital located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is one of the oldest existing hospitals in India. The institute was established on 28 January 1835 by Lord William Bentinck during British Raj as Medical College, Bengal.
The Government of Tamil Nadu established the Tirunelveli Medical College in 1965, with the agreement of the University of Madras. A total of 75 students were admitted for the MBBS course for the academic year 1965-66 and they had their first year of study at the St Xaviers College for Men and Sarah Tucker College for Women.
The medical college campus covers an area of 1 km 2. It is located on the western edge of Thanjavur city. The Thanjavur Medical College Hospital is situated on the southern edge of the campus.
