The United States Coast Guard Academy ( USCGA ), located in New London, Connecticut, is the U.S. service academy specifically for the United States Coast Guard. Founded in 1876, the academy provides education to future Coast Guard officers in one of nine major fields of study. Students are officers-in-training, and are referred to as cadets.
The program can place students at Coast Guard Headquarters and other operational or mission support units across the United States or virtually. To receive academic credit the student is advised to work with their college or university ahead of time to ensure they get academic credit.
Students include Coast Guard active duty, reservists, and auxiliarists. Additionally, TRACEN Yorktown provides training to other U.S. military services and agencies, and foreign military and coast guard personnel.
