Military retirement in the United States is a system of benefits designed to improve the quality and retention of personnel recruited to and retained within the United States military. These benefits are technically not a veterans pension, but a retainer payment, as retired service members are eligible to be reactivated.
Under the High 36 Retirement System, retirees with 20 years of service will receive 50% of their base pay, or 20 years x 2.5% per year. Those opting for the CSB bonus will receive 40% instead.
