The school is non-selective, catering for students aged 11–16. The school opened on its current site on Newbold Road in 1956 as Newbold Grange High School. Until the early 1990s, under the headship of Mr Turbayne, the school was subject to much criticism, with a relatively bad reputation.

The case was the result of the school administration of Hazelwood East High School in Missouri forbidding the publication of two newspaper stories regarding abortion and divorce in 1983.

It started off with a population of 126 students, and with Grades 9s and 10s. Each year after, a new grade was added on. The school had its first graduating class in 2005. The school is a unique one, as it shares facilities with another school, S.D.C.I (Stratroy District Collegiate Institute), which is part of the TVDSB.
Some of the students in these productions later went on to pursue higher education in the performing arts and are now graduates of or enrolled in theatre programs at Dawson College, John Abbott College and Vanier College as well as the National Theatre School of Canada. Student loan default rates. The Ontario Student Assistance Program reports default rates for private career colleges. For Thames Valley College, the percentage of student loans in default was 35.3% in 2005 and 41.7% in 2004, compared to 22.2% and 25.4% for all private career colleges. References
