The college began holding classes on August 26, 1974. It had 684 students enrolled for its initial semester. In 2005, the school opened an extension center in Wynne, Arkansas. In 2017, the Arkansas General Assembly passed Act 636, which laid out the process for merging EACC and the nearby Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute (CRTI).

In 2008 Labette Community College opened a satellite campus in Cherokee County, Kansas on the outskirts of Pittsburg, Kansas.. Labette Community College renovated a 14,000 square foot, ten acre, space on the corner of highways 400 and 69, near Pittsburg to better serve the students of southeast Kansas.
This allows students to take classes which will transfer to a university. ACC Department of Continuing Education and Workforce Development also offers a variety of programs that allow students to further or begin new careers in a number of fields including health care, professional services, industrial arts and more.
A 2017 survey determined that 11% of Amarillo College students were homeless in the period 2016-2017, and a total of 54% of the student body had difficulty obtaining food within one month of taking the survey. As a result of the high numbers of low income students, the school has made antipoverty initiatives. [10]
This student group was formed to bring together students and provide a safe and open space at EVMS to discuss LGBTQ issues, especially topics related to health care. Each year, the group does presentations for the other medical interest groups to help bring LGBTQ awareness to other students as they pursue their medical school training.
The student body consists of more than 8,500 undergraduate students. There are more than 40 student clubs on campus. [8] County College of Morris is smoke-free and was one of the first public colleges to ban smoking entirely. The decision to ban smoking was a project of the 2005-2006 Student Government Association.
