The SAF Scholarship, formerly known as the SAF Overseas Scholarship ( SAFOS ), is a scholarship conferred by the Public Service Commission (PSC). The scholarship is second in prestige to the President's Scholarship. Scholars are groomed for the highest levels of command and management in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and beyond.
Public Service Commission (Singapore) The Public Service Commission ( PSC) has a constitutional role to appoint, confirm, promote, transfer, dismiss and exercise disciplinary control over public officers in Singapore. It is constituted under Part IX of the Constitution of Singapore . The PSC also retains two key non-constitutional roles.
Gaining a GPA of 5.0 or A+ is naturally considered as a good result. However, since a student can gain grade far above the required 80% to receive a GPA of 5.0, the actual grades received in each subject is also included in the official mark sheets given by the education board for PSC, JSC, SSC and HSC exams.
Before the SSC was introduced, an exam was taken in its place (then known as Madhyamik Britti or Junior Scholarship). This was a voluntary vocational exam and not mandatory, which were later made mandatory and renamed as junior school certificate. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the exams could not be held in 2020 and 2021.
