Sanford–Brown (also known as the Sanford–Brown College or Sanford–Brown Institute) was a division of the Career Education Corporation, a proprietary, for-profit higher education organization. The school traced its history back to the 1860s as a successor to a St. Louis location of Brown's Business College owned by George W. Brown (1845-1918).
He was born on August 22, 1890 in Edinburgh, Scotland.He was the son of the eminent gynaecologist, Alexander Hugh Freeland Barbour and Margaret Nelson Brown. From 1899 he attended Merchiston Castle School in the south of Edinburgh.

George Williams College has its genesis in a summer camp founded on the shores of Geneva Lake in Wisconsin by YMCA leaders I. E. Brown, William Lewis, and Robert Weidensall in 1886. This camp was created to serve as a professional YMCA training school. The camp moved to Hyde Park in 1890, where it transformed into a college. [2]

The George V. Meehan Auditorium is a 3,059-seat hockey arena, in Providence, Rhode Island.The arena opened in 1961 and was dedicated on January 6, 1962. It is named for George V. Meehan, the benefactor of the arena, which he hoped would "service and promote" the Brown Bears ice hockey program, which now belongs to the Ivy and ECAC Hockey leagues.
