The 285th Aviation Regiment is a parent aviation regiment of the United States Army.. The lineage of the 1st Battalion, 285th Aviation Regiment began in 1971 with the formation of the 997th Aviation Company (Assault Helicopter) at Papago Army Airfield.
The Sobaipuri were possibly related to the Hohokam, and occupied the Southern portion of the Santa Cruz, with the Pima to their North and South. Kingman Airport was built as a World War II United States Army Air Forces training field. Between 1942 and 1945 the U.S. Army Air Forces acquired about 4,145 acres in Mohave County outside of Kingman, Arizona and established the Kingman Army Airfield and Kingman Aerial Gunnery School training facilities in 1942.
