The Chargers only spent one season in Los Angeles before moving to San Diego in 1961 due to the popularity of the Rams. Initially denied in December, 1960, but announced in late January, 1961, owner Barron Hilton relocated the Chargers down the coast to a soon-to-be expanded Balboa Stadium at Balboa Park in San Diego for the 1961 season, their home field until 1966.
