The South African rand, or simply the rand, ( sign: R; code: ZAR [a]) is the official currency of the Southern African Common Monetary Area: South Africa, Namibia (alongside the Namibian dollar ), Lesotho (alongside the Lesotho loti) and Eswatini (alongside the Swazi lilangeni ).
The Ora (symbol:Φ, [ˈʊəra]) [1] is the local currency of Orania, an Afrikaner town in South Africa first issued in April 2004. It is pegged at par with the South African rand. [1] The name, recalling that of the town where it circulates, derives from Latin aurum, meaning "gold". [2]
The small giant symbol is also used for the town's flag, its currency and merchandise. It was designed by South African artist Elly Holm.
