13000768 [1] Added to NRHP. September 25, 2013. The Old Dowlin Mill, at 641 Sudderth Dr. in Ruidoso, New Mexico, was built in 1868 by Captain Paul Dowlin. The Old Dowlin Mill is the oldest building in Ruidoso. [2] It has also been known as Old Mill, Dowlins Mill, and Lesnetts Mill. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
Pictured is the Ruidoso Downs New Mexico Racetrack and Casino, where the All American Futurity is held annually. After a flood covered fields in gravel and silt in the small village of Ruidoso Downs, an informal race track was built on the fields in the 1940s. Bets varied from as "little as a bag of oats or $10,000 to $50,000 was being bet."
