Outlook on the web (formerly Outlook Web App and Outlook Web Access [2]) is a personal information manager web app from Microsoft. It is a web-based version of Microsoft Outlook, and is included in Exchange Server and Exchange Online (a component of Microsoft 365 .) [3] [4] [5]
The first version was called Exchange Server 4.0, to position it as the successor to the related Microsoft Mail 3.5. Exchange initially used the X.400 directory service but switched to Active Directory later. Until version 5.0, it came bundled with an email client called Microsoft Exchange Client. This was discontinued in favor of Microsoft Outlook .
Version 5.0 also introduced a new webmail interface called Exchange Web Access, which was rebranded as Outlook Web Access in a later service pack.
