History. Hurlburt began as a small training field for the much larger Eglin Field.It was initially designated Eglin Auxiliary Field No. 9, and later as Eglin Air Force Base Auxiliary Field 9/Hurlburt Field when the U.S. Air Force became an independent service, before being administratively separated from the rest of the Eglin AFB complex in the 1950s.

Reappeared at Hurlburt Field, Florida in the early 1970s, carrying 62–1843 identity, as C-130E(I), redesignated MC-130E in early 1977. Assigned to the 711th Special Operations Squadron at Duke Field , Eglin Air Force Base Aux. Field 3, in October 1995, c/n 3990, the faux 62-1843 , was still there as of December 2005.
