The university was upgraded from the erstwhile Bajali College which had a glorious history of more than six decades and was widely recognized as one of the prominent educational institutions of the state of Assam. The university was established by Bhattadev University Act, 2017 to which the Governor of Assam gave his assent on 16 October 2017.
Dakshin Kamrup College is a co- educational degree college affiliated with Gauhati University. At present the yearly enrollment of the college is approximately 5741 students. The College offered only art education till 1978. The science stream started in 1979. The college successfully completed a glorious 50 years in 2011.
