GCU is a public research university in Lahore, Pakistan, founded in 1864 as Government College, Lahore. It has a history of producing notable scholars, politicians and academics, and offers degrees in various disciplines.

[3] [4] The school was later named after Abdus Salam who was professor of mathematics at the Government College Lahore from 1951 to 1954. The school starts operating in late 2003. The school is ruled by a board of governors (BoG), with the Vice Chancellor of GCU Lahore as its chairman. [4]
Asghar Zaidi (Urdu: اصغر زیدی) is a social policy analyst and population ageing researcher. He is the former 4th Vice Chancellor and 31st head of the Government College University Lahore (GCU), from October 2019 to October 2023. [2]

He graduated from Government College University Lahore in the 1980s and then did his master's degree in political science in 1987 with distinction (silver medal) from University of the Punjab.
