20 July 2024. The Jharkhand High Court is one of the newest high courts in India. It was established in 2000. The court has jurisdiction over Jharkhand state. The seat of the court is at Ranchi, the administrative capital of the state. The court has a sanctioned judge strength of 25. The new building of the Jharkhand High Court has been approved.

He became the permanent Judge on 16 January 2010. He was appointed the Chief Justice of High Court of Jharkhand on 17 November 2019. He was retired on 19 December 2022.

In 1990, Gupta was elevated as Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. He was transferred to Calcutta High Court in 1996 and was appointed Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court on 15 November 2000. He took oath as the first permanent Chief Justice of this High Court on 5 December 2000.
