The Minnesota Air National Guard (MN ANG) is the aerial militia of the U.S. state of Minnesota.It is a reserve of the United States Air Force and along with the Minnesota Army National Guard, an element of the Minnesota National Guard of the larger United States National Guard Bureau.
It was formerly Barnes Municipal Airport; [4] the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a general aviation facility. [5] Westfield-Barnes is one of Massachusetts' largest airports with a strong flight training, general aviation, and military presence. It is also known as Barnes Air National Guard Base. [6]
A partnership was created on December 22, 2006 among the Coast Guard, National Guard, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Coast Guard assumed control of the aviation facilities from the Air Force, the Air National Guard took over the management of the utilities, and the state funds the emergency services and fire protection.
