The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly is the unicameral state legislature of Jharkhand state in India. The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Ranchi, the capital of the state. The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years, unless dissolved earlier. Presently, it comprises 81 members who are directly elected from single-seat constituencies.

It is one of the Assembly segments of the Rajmahal Lok Sabha constituency along with 5 other segments, namely, Borio and Barhait in this district and Litipara, Pakur and Maheshpur in Pakur district. At the time of formation, Jharkhand state had 18 districts. Later, six more districts were carved out by reorganizing these districts. The 23rd and 24th districts- Khunti and Ramgarh (carved out of erstwhile Ranchi and Hazaribagh District respectively) were made a district on 12 September 2007.
