On 20 October 2011, Aziz was issued a show cause letter by IIUM and suspended from work [26] 'to facilitate investigations' as announced by the rector of IIUM, Zaleha Kamaruddin. She also clarified that his suspension was not without pay, and his rights to associate himself with the faculty remained open despite rumours against it.

In 1905, there were 17 medical students, four students attending the hospital assistant course. Five years later, the enrolments increased to 90 medical students and 30 trainee hospital assistants. The school had only one permanent staff which was the Principal, the teaching staff were employed on a part-time basis.
The teaching staff almost tripled from 19 to 53. On 27 May 1997 the school was officiated then by the Deputy Prime Minister; Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. By 1998, the number of students had grown to 810 and the teaching staff had a strength of 63 people. The year also saw the retirement of the school's first principal Tuan Haji Khamis bin Maarof.

He has taught at universities in Australia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore and the US, and is currently Professor of English at International Islamic University Malaysia, [1] and adjunct professor in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Flinders University, and School of Education at the University of South Australia.
