History. A part of the School of Contemporary Media, Fanshawe's Music Industry Arts (MIA) program was founded as Creative Electronics in 1973 by British disc jockey Tom Lodge formerly of Radio Caroline. With six professors and 35 students in its inaugural year, courses in the three-year program centered on electronics and music synthesizers.
Most operate as a "College of Applied Arts and Technology", although five are designated as an "Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning". [3] [note 1] English is the language of instruction for the majority of programs at publicly funded colleges in Ontario, although some programs are taught in French. [11]

In 1951, the Board of Directors authorized the purchase of Nicholls Hospital in Peterborough and relocated the college to Peterborough, where it became a residential institution. In 1981, the Nicholls Hospital was torn down and was replaced by a new dorm residence for men and women. In 1984, EPBC launched a Bachelor of Theology degree program.
