Desktop apps, like Outlook, Thunderbird, and Mac Mail, can access AOL Mail using POP. Copies of your email download to the app, so actions in the app won't affect your account. One POP setting, however, will delete email from your account when it's downloaded. To disable the "delete emails from server" option, contact your app manufacturer.
If you're a Verizon migrated user and want to continue using your POP3 configured client, you'll need to update your client with POP3 settings. IMAP is a method used to retrieve emails from a mail server. Your messages are stored on the server, and each time you check your inbox, the email client contacts the server to get your messages.
Check your display name: If you have any combination of "AOL" in your display name, the message won't go through. It is especially important to check your Mail settings for this if your account has been recently compromised, as hackers will often change your name to make it harder for you to use your account normally even after it's secured.
This setting is enabled at an account level, which means your preferences will carry over to the desktop site, the mobile site, and the AOL app. The Unified Inbox displays all your emails in one place instead of separate New Mail and Old Mail folders. Emails in the Unified Inbox are listed by date, with the latest message on top.
