In 1970, NFCS signed an agreement to lease the Old Sealey School campus from the Leon County school board for $5.00 per day. In response to the lease, the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare blocked the public school system from receiving a $200,000 federal grant since the school board was aiding a racially segregated private school.
As of 1984, SAIL High School had approximately 140 students. In the early 1990s, SAIL High School served as a magnet school for environmental science. In 1990, Al Gore visited the school to express his support for environmental education programs. Current Leon County School Board member Rosanne Wood was SAIL's longest-serving Principal.

James S. Rickards High School is a public high school in Tallahassee, Florida, United States. It is a part of Leon County Schools. The school's mascot, originally the Rickards Redskins, was changed to the Rickards Raiders in 2000 because of controversy over the racial connotations of the term "redskin".
