The system was scrapped in 2011 by 15th amendment of constitution to allow political government to conduct any General Election in future. The 2023 Bangladeshi presidential election was scheduled for Sunday, 19 February 2023 to elect the 22nd President of Bangladesh. However, nominations closed at noon on 12 February and the Awami League politician Mohammed Shahabuddin Chuppu, who had nominated in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, was the only candidate nominated.
