Outline of Louisiana. The following outline is provided as an overview of and topical guide to the U.S. state of Louisiana: Louisiana – U.S. state located in the southern region of the United States of America. Louisiana is the only state in the U.S. with political subdivisions termed parishes, which are local governments equivalent to counties.

Louisiana [pronunciation 1] (French: Louisiane ⓘ; Spanish: Luisiana; Louisiana Creole: Lwizyàn) is a state in the Deep South and South Central regions of the United States. It borders Texas to the west, Arkansas to the north, and Mississippi to the east.
This organized the state into seven judicial districts, each consisting of groups of parishes. In 1816, the first official map of the state used the term parish, as did the 1845 constitution. Since then, the official term for Louisiana's primary civil divisions has been parishes. The 19 original parishes were joined by Catahoula Parish in 1808.
Louisiana state parks have many accommodations, including overnight cabins, boating rentals, guided daily tours, and fishing piers. In 2002, Louisiana state parks had more than 2 million visitors. With the addition of Palmetto Island State Park in 2010, Louisiana state parks comprise more than 30,000 acres (12,000 ha) of land.
