Scott McDonald was born in Toronto, Canada. In the late 1970s, Scott's family moved to Saudi Arabia. His father (a doctor) and mother (a teacher and nurse) were involved in the early days of both the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh and the Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, after which they moved to Dubai.

The British Council was founded in 1934 in London. [6] It opened its first branch in Dhaka in 1951 when Bangladesh was a part of Pakistan. [2] On 25 March 1971, at the start of Bangladesh Liberation War, the council office was attacked by Pakistan army, killing 8 East Pakistan Police officers guarding the office. [7]
